A review on the greek publication of «Kotto»

Dear friends, as the translator of Lafcadio Hearn's «Kotto» in greek I was so happy to read the review which Marianna Georgouli wrote for the greek edition of the book. The review published online at «Artic.gr». And now I proudly share it with you.

The review begins with an abstract from the «Revery» and goes on with a short biography of Lafcadio Hearn. The second paragraph speaks about the book and how Lafcadio, the universal man, became a universal writer.

In the third paragraph the reviewer presents the content of «Kotto» mentioning the prefraces of the great grandson Bon Koizumi, the publisher George C. Poulos, the member of Hearn Society Takis Efstathiou and mine. She spots the essays «Revery» and «A drop of dew» for the highly interesting and charming approach of Buddhism towards man, soul and death and of course the touching «Woman's Diary» for the valuable contact with a woman of another culture and era.

In the forth paragraph about the language the reviewer mentions «Apart from the content, in «Koto» much of the magic is in the combination and the flow of the words and in the fact that they are in the right time in the proper position to a lure and a sink the reader in the book. His methods to handle the language separate and elevate Lafcadio Hearn to a maestro of the art of speech from a simple story teller. She also conratulates the translator who managed to accomplish the difficult task of translating such a book in a way that brings in depth the poetic speech of the writer and transports the reader to the book's atmosphere.

In conclusion, the partnership in this publication of people with both passion and love for what they do led to a result of impressive quality which is rare nowadays.
